This 90-minute lecture traces 44 years of implant and prosthetic design evolution, from the two-stage Brånemark System and Core-Vent implants that launched the osseointegration era to today's Next Generation implants.

Dr. Niznick, an original architect of modern implant design, shares the engineering principles behind innovations like application-specific abutments, the internal conical connection, and one-stage, immediate-load protocols, giving clinicians insight into current design and trends shaping implant dentistry today.

Dr. Gerald A. Niznick, DMD, MSD, pioneered modern dental implant design. He founded Core-Vent and Paragon Dental Implant Companies (1982 to 2001) and developed the Screw-Vent, Advent, and SwissPlus implant systems now sold by Zimmer Dental. In 2004, he founded Implant Direct, creating what is now known as the “value segment” of the dental implant industry, and served as its President through 2013. Dr. Niznick holds 36 US dental implant patents, including the internal conical connection introduced with the Screw-Vent implant in 1986, a design that remains a cornerstone of modern implant systems. He earned his DMD from the University of Manitoba Dental School in 1966 (renamed the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry in 2018) and his Masters degree in Prosthodontics from Indiana University in 1968, and holds honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Manitoba and Tel Aviv University.
